Job Description

Intermission Film is seeking a Motion Designer to join its global Motion Design team in New York City. This onsite role supports film and TV marketing initiatives, with a focus on 2D motion graphics for social-focused creative and campaign deliverables.

Role Overview

You will collaborate with senior designers, editors, and producers to interpret project briefs and produce high-quality visual work across a range of marketing formats. The position also includes contributing concepts, developing pitch-support materials, and partnering with collaborators to ensure graphics integrate smoothly into final edits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality motion graphics for social media, trailers, digital outdoor, feature content, and TV campaigns within the Motion Design team.
  • Interpret creative briefs and translate ideas into clear, effective visual executions.
  • Share fresh ideas and conceptual thinking during creative meetings and project discussions.
  • Support research and development by sourcing and sharing creative references and visual approaches.
  • Develop mood boards, presentations, and visual research for pitches and project support.
  • Work closely with editors to help shape projects and integrate graphics into cuts.
  • Collaborate with producers and creative leads, with an emphasis on Social campaigns.
  • Create mock-ups of social campaign ideas for pitch decks and internal development.
  • Independently problem-solve creatively and technically, proposing solutions to emerging challenges.
  • Maintain quality control, organisation, and attention to detail across all deliverables.
  • Meet deadlines and proactively communicate with producers regarding timelines, priorities, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with teams across Intermission’s global offices, ensuring clear communication and effective handovers.
  • Stay current with design trends, social media advertising in Film & TV, and platform trends such as TikTok and Instagram.
  • Develop and refine skills, workflows, and software knowledge to improve creative quality and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience as a Motion Designer in a fast-paced creative, design, or production environment.
  • Strong grounding in Motion Design and 2D animation, with confidence in your creative approach and a desire to keep developing.
  • Understanding of 3D, specifically Element / Cinema 4D.
  • Strong After Effects skills, with confident use of Illustrator and Photoshop as part of a motion workflow.
  • Solid understanding of typography, static design, and motion principles.
  • Experience with tracking, rotoscoping, and compositing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain high quality standards across deliverables.
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, reactive environment.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to build effective working relationships across creative and production teams.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and reliable under pressure.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset with flexibility and adaptability.
  • Self-motivated focus and ability to take ownership of work.
  • Passion for film, television, and social content.

Compensation

$75,000 - $90,000 per year.
