Instructor Graphic Design and Illustration

The University of South Carolina on the Columbia campus in Richland County, SC seeks a full-time, professional-track Instructor in Graphic Design and Illustration to teach across the design curriculum and oversee the Digital Print Lab, with a 9-month appointment and potential 11-month extension.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the expansion of the award-winning Graphic Design and Illustration (GD+I) BFA program through teaching, mentorship, and service.
• Teach courses across the design curriculum, including introductory courses in design technology foundation and typographic design.
• Mentor students and maintain and manage the Digital Print Lab.
• Develop new courses in entrepreneurship and business strategies for creatives.
• Administrative appointment opportunity with this position to extend to an 11-month appointment with a 3/3/1 load and responsibilities to manage the Digital Print Lab.
• Teach a teaching load of 8 courses for an academic year.

Requirements

• A MFA, MDes, or PhD degree in graphic design, illustration, or closely related field by the start date of employment, with expertise in graphic design, current design technology, and the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and adjunct instructors on curriculum matters.
• Related advanced degrees, beyond the baccalaureate, in graphic design, illustration, or closely related fields may be acceptable if accompanied by a demonstrated period of substantive professional experience in graphic design.
