Job Description

In this Creative Director role at Sony Music Entertainment Canada, you will shape how artist clients show up visually through merchandise. Based onsite in Nashville, TN, you will lead an art team and work across functions to conceptualize and deliver designs that connect with fans while supporting broader artist strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Provide creative direction and leadership to the art team, maintaining a cohesive, compelling visual identity across artist merchandise.
  • Build a team culture focused on innovation and collaboration, encouraging new ideas and breakthrough design work.
  • Manage freelance creatives, including briefing, creative direction, budgeting, and contracts.
  • Stay grounded in current music trends, artist aesthetics, and fan preferences to guide design decisions.
  • Collaborate with tour, ecommerce, retail, and artist relations to align merchandise design with overall artist strategy and business objectives.
  • Lead brainstorming and ideation sessions to generate fresh, original concepts for artist merchandise.
  • Translate concepts into production-ready designs, balancing market trends, production feasibility, and artist guidelines.
  • Coordinate with tour, ecommerce, retail, and artist relations to ensure concepts integrate smoothly into product lines.
  • Partner with artist management and support teams to capture the essence of personality, fans, and campaigns, translating it into merchandise designs.
  • Oversee production output so final products match the approved creative vision and meet quality standards.
  • Run regular reviews and provide constructive feedback to art and production teams to maintain consistently high output quality.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience as a Creative Director or in a comparable leadership role within the music merchandise industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, In-Design, and Illustrator.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of successful and innovative merchandise designs.
  • In-depth understanding of design software, industry trends, and production processes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for music and a deep understanding of various artist genres.
