Job Description

Join the GWN team in Asheville, NC, and help shape engaging visual storytelling for children from preschool through young teens. This full-time Art Director role focuses on dynamic, primarily print design (with some digital) across three magazines, while also collaborating with the editorial team to bring interactive website experiences to life. You’ll lead magazine art workflow end to end, supervise creatives, and contribute ideas in editorial planning.

What you’ll create

  • Design visually compelling layouts for three magazines, covering six issues per edition per year
  • Manage the two-month workflow per issue from start to finish
  • Collaborate on digital and interactive website content with the editorial team

How you’ll contribute

  • Supervise staff illustrator work to support development of art and graphics
  • Oversee a contracted graphic designer to help handle workload
  • Attend weekly editorial planning meetings and participate in discussion
  • Join other departmental and company-wide meetings as needed

What you bring

  • Robust Christian world and life view
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a graphic designer, preferably with print experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Comfort with Google Docs and Dropbox
  • Creativity and flexibility to produce original, unique designs for a wide age range
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with editors and creative staff
  • Strong time management to handle multiple tasks and meet deadline-driven production pace
  • Diligent, organized, and detail-oriented working style
  • Teachable mindset with willingness to be edited and to take feedback
  • Team-oriented approach that values others’ experience while contributing your own
  • Awareness of current events and modern world trends and issues
  • Experience working with children and teens and/or for a children’s publication is a strong plus
