As a Senior Product Designer, Growth and Conversion at NPR, you will partner with researchers, product managers, and developers to craft end-to-end digital experiences. The role initially emphasizes top-of-funnel design across multiple surfaces, with the goal of improving retention and conversion.
Role Focus
You will support concept development through launch readiness, including detailed quality checks close to release. Initial work centers on growth, reaching audiences and encouraging deeper engagement across web, mobile, voice, CarPlay, and other connected surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and lead end-to-end design experiences, including qualitative studies, design systems and Figma standards, and related campaigns or collateral
- Collect business requirements and translate them into audience-focused product or campaign goals
- Collaborate with adjacent disciplines to define product or campaign vision
- Contribute to organizing and evolving design systems and Figma Libraries to support consistent experiences and best practices across platforms
- Recommend and execute user research for new and existing products, then provide change recommendations
- Apply knowledge of intended audiences to evaluate how design choices affect them
- Work with developers to build prototypes and refine working products
- Facilitate design thinking and co-creation sessions with relevant partners
Requirements
- At least seven (7) years of product design experience, including 2 to 3 years of proven retention-based work on mobile, web, or other digital platforms
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex offerings such as audience personalization, user retention and growth, or onboarding for new and existing features into intuitive, emotionally resonant experiences that drive retention and conversion
- Strong user interface expertise, with emphasis on scalable interaction patterns, adaptive experiences, personalized journeys, and comprehensive design systems for large-scale platforms
- Experience designing across multiple platforms and contexts, including desktop, mobile, and connected devices, covering both user-facing and internal tools
- Proficiency in design thinking and agile project methodologies, and the ability to integrate them into daily workflows
- Versatility in prototyping from low to high fidelity, selecting methods based on project needs and timelines
- Deep curiosity about user behavior and emerging technologies, including how they influence design and interaction
- Experience advocating for and/or implementing design systems
- Analytics tool experience (for example, Google Analytics) to track behavior, assess performance, and inform design iterations
- Familiarity with implementation of accessibility standards
- Strong understanding of visual design elements and principles
- Ability to balance innovation with pragmatism, including accurate scoping
- Ability to explain design decisions and elicit specific, useful feedback
- Understanding of technology frameworks powering digital products, including APIs, web and mobile platforms, content management systems, and Google Analytics for data-driven decision-making

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Digital Media, or a similar field is preferred but not required.
Work Location and Travel
This is an NPR Remote-Permitted role based out of the Washington, D.C. office. The employee may work remotely from an NPR-approved location, work on-site at an NPR facility, or use a combination of both. Travel to other locations may be required from time to time to perform job duties.
Job Type
Full-time, exempt position.
Compensation
Salary range: USD 125,646 - 136,630 per year, plus benefits. The range reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires across all US locations.
