Staff Product Designer
Job Description
Tempus is seeking a Staff Product Designer to own end-to-end, platform-level workflows for data ingestion, curation, structuring, and distribution, while shaping design vision and mentoring designers across healthcare data platforms.
Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic partner alongside product management and senior leadership to set direction
- Ensure precise and unambiguous communication; advocate for disambiguation across teams
- Promote a culture of documentation and knowledge-sharing across multiple teams and stakeholders
- Anticipate blockers and drive initiatives that span several teams to successful completion
- Mentor designers and provide regular design feedback
- Lead cross-functional workshops (engineering, product, operations) to resolve requirements and influence roadmaps for platform goals
- Collaborate with product and engineering to define and scope problems
- Maintain regular alignment with stakeholders on goals and approaches
- Involve the design team in feedback loops as appropriate
- Serve as a reliable resource on platform strategy, key use cases, and workflows, articulating use cases alongside business objectives
Requirements
- Approximately 8+ years of experience in fast-paced creative environments
- Proactive, natural collaboration skills with the ability to align multiple department leaders
- Growth mindset and readiness to continually learn and improve
- Comfort with ambiguity and reliance on subject matter experts in technical domains
- Preference for progress over perfection
- Exceptional product design skills with capacity for both strategic and conceptual thinking
- Experience designing for highly technical users such as data scientists, ML engineers, bioinformaticians, and translational researchers
- Compelling portfolio demonstrating high-quality design work
- Experience presenting to senior leadership
- Customer-focused mindset, relentlessly addressing user needs
- Proficiency with Figma, Cursor, and comparable design tools
- Healthcare data understanding is helpful; industry experience is a plus but not required
