Ivy Tech Community College invites you to join as an on-site adjunct instructor for Visual Communications Graphic Design in South Bend, Indiana. This as-needed contract role provides a competitive hourly rate of USD 47 per hour, with the chance to shape student learning, develop course materials, and contribute to a dynamic college environment. Work closely with faculty and students within established policies while delivering engaging, hands-on instruction.

Responsibilities
- Deliver assigned Visual Communications Graphic Design classes in alignment with College policy and course objectives to facilitate student learning.
- Utilize available technology to enhance instructional methods and student engagement.
- Develop and maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials; keep accurate student records and grades.
- Engage with students in meaningful, productive ways that support learning and create a positive experience within Ivy Tech, with active classroom teaching approaches.
- Interact with students and colleagues in a professional and cooperative manner; adhere to College policies and campus guidelines.
- Know, communicate, and implement emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs, and all learning environments.
Requirements
- Earned bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
- Portfolio demonstrating significant involvement as a practicing artist, graphic designer, web designer, photographer, videographer, or animator, and one of the following:
- Professional certification in the field
- Five years of industry related work experience
- Completed academic preparation appropriate to the program
- Meets the Visual Communication program standard
- Or a portfolio demonstrating significant involvement as a practicing designer, and two of the following:
- An earned associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
- Five years of industry related work experience
- Holds a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education in a directly related field
Technologies
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe InDesign
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrable portfolio work with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, publication design, print design, and vector graphics
Supervision Received
- Program Chair, Department Chair, or Dean
Education, Experience and Other Requirements
Applicants must have a strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to the area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. All activities should reflect an appreciation for and promotion of diversity in people, styles, and views.
VISC 1XX Course Standard
- A qualified faculty member teaching VISC 1XX meets the course standard in one of two ways:
- Meets the Visual Communication program standard
- Or possesses a portfolio demonstrating significant involvement as a practicing designer, and two of the following:
- An earned associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
- Five years of industry related work experience
- Holds a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education in a directly related field
